Iranian Ambassador Calls for Unity Among Muslims at Quran Competition

H.E. Majid Saffar, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Uganda, has emphasized the importance of unity among Muslims at the closing ceremony of the 3rd Students’ Quran Competitions at Al-Mustafa Islamic College Kyengera. 

He noted that unity teaches patience, oneness, and strength amidst challenges, and helps the vulnerable and oppressed worldwide.

Saffar quoted the holy Quran, highlighting its emphasis on social justice and protecting the weak, particularly in situations like Gaza, Lebanon, and Palestine. He reminded participants that the Prophet of Islam stood up for the weak, reflecting the values of the holy Quran.

His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, Uganda’s first deputy Mufti, called for prayers for Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, warning that imperialists continue to pursue neocolonialism. 

He congratulated Al-Mustafa Islamic College for organizing the annual Quran competitions and encouraged participants to join the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council National Competitions in December 2024.

Abdollah Abbasi, Iranian Cultural Counsellor to Uganda, encouraged participants to recite the Quran daily, citing its benefits in this life and the hereafter. He shared the story of Imam Khomeini, who prioritized Quran recitation as an act of worship.

The event honored the late Dr. Anasi Abdunoor Kaliisa for his contributions to Islam in Uganda. Alhaj Abdulkarim Kaliisa, Managing Director of Salam Charity Foundation, praised Dr. Kaliisa’s dedication to Islamic scholarship, social cohesion, and promoting unity.

Dr. Rouhollah Dehghani the principal of Al-mustafa Islamic College’s noted that the competition focused on Quran and science.
