Independents Eat Big in New Opposition Shadow Cabinet

The Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LOP), Betty Aol Ochan has Thursday afternoon unveiled a 31 member shadow cabinet.

This the LOP has done in accordance with the powers vested in her by the Constitution and the Parliament Rules of Procedure.

During her communication on the floor of the House, Ochan informed members that the appointments take effect immediately.

Notably, a number of Independent legislators have been appointed to the opposition front bench while some opposition MPs were left out.

The Independent legislators appointed on the shadow cabinet include; Wilfred Niwagaba for Attorney General, Anna Adeke Ebajju for Youth and Children Affairs, Mohammed Nsereko for Security, Benard Atiku for Defense, Kato Lubwama for Culture and Performing Arts, Francis Zaake for East African Community, Joshua Anywarach for Human Rights.

Busiro East MP, Medard Segoona maintained his position as the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs while Mathias Mpugga has been appointed shadow Minister for Education.

Other appointments are; Allan Ssewanyana for Sports, Muwanga Kivumbi for Internal Affairs, Godffrey Katusabe for Foreign Affairs, William Nzoghu for Works and Transport, Ochen Julius for Health and Oyet Simon for Energy and Mineral.

Charles Gutmoi was appointed to the Tourism and Wildlife docket, Sizomu Gashomu to Relief and Disaster Preparedness, Paul Lutamaguzi (Land) and Housing, Kasozi Ibrahim (Physical Planning) and Fred Turyamuhweza for Trade and Industry.

Emmanuel Ongiertho is the shadow Minister for Cooperatives while the new legislator, Muzanira Betty has been named the  Minister for Local Government. Atim Joy took the docket for Special Region Affairs replacing the current leader of opposition, Betty Ochan ,Denis Lee goes to Science and Innovations and Technology while Florence Namayanja will be in charge of Water and Environment.

Ochan dropped Moses Kasibante as Minister for Human Rights and replaced him with Joshua Anywarach. Gilbert Oulanyah was also dropped as shadow Defense and replaced by Bernard Atiku while Robert Cetenary who has been in charge of Trade has been replaced by Fred Turyamuhweza.

Micheal Kabaziguruka has been dropped from Minister KCCA Affairs and replaced by Betty Nambooze who has been shadow Minister for Local Government and Public Service.

The other MPs on cabinet include Akol Anthony Shadow (Finance), Achiro Lucy Gender Labour and Social Development, Odur Jonathan (Public Service), Francis Gonahasa (Agriculture) and Okot Peter (Animal Industry).
