It targets the most recent Bachelor’s degree finalists from public universities and private chartered universities recognised by the National Council for Higher Education. Eligible applicants for the 7th edition are those who completed their Bachelor’s degree programmes in 2024.

The programme is open to Bachelor’s degree holders from any discipline/background and the scholarship package covers all ICPAU-related costs, such as registration, annual studentship fees, examination fees and study material.

Applicants must possess a first-class or second-class honours – upper division grade. The application is via the Institute’s website, www.icpau.co.ug, and the deadline is 30 April 2025. Ten slots are available.

Spotlight on 6th cohort

ICPAU hosted an impressive ceremony at the Protea Hotel by Marriott Kampala Skyz on 15th January 2025 to unveil the 6th cohort of the ICPAU Student Scholarship Programme. These applied in 2024. There are 10 beneficiaries, and they beat 359 applicants from 27 universities.

The students are scheduled to write their first examinations in May 2025, and they are required to complete the course within two and a half years.

Highly rewarding profession

In her opening remarks, CPA Josephine Okui Ossiya, the President of ICPAU, congratulated the winners of the 6th cohort for their successful selection following a rigorous process.

In a message read for her by Vice President CPA Ronald Mutumba, CPA Ossiya encouraged the new scholarship recipients, noting that accountancy is a highly rewarding profession that is vital to businesses and organisations across the globe.

Vice President CPA Ronald Mutumba represented ICPAU President Josephine Ossiya

“You have made the right choice in applying for the scholarship,” said CPA Ossiya. “Accountancy is a profession that is always in demand, and the skills you will gain will open doors to numerous opportunities. Success will depend on your dedication, hard work, and readiness to face the challenges ahead.”

She urged the students to make the most of the resources available, such as the student engagement webinars and other ICPAU-organised programmes, and to aim for completing the course within the set two-and-a-half-year timeline.

Furthermore, CPA Ossiya emphasised that completing the CPA qualification will grant them ICPAU membership, an achievement that enhances their professional profile, offers international recognition, and provides eligibility for leadership roles within the institute.

As part of the celebration, CPA Ossiya also shared the success of two outstanding beneficiaries from previous cohorts who will be graduating on 6th March 2025. Their dedication and hard work serve as a reminder that success in the accounting profession is achievable with perseverance.

The 6th cohort beneficiaries, who applied for the scholarship between February and April 2024, will be enrolled in the CPA course immediately following the ceremony.

In her closing remarks, CPA Ossiya thanked the ICPAU Council for establishing the Scholarship Scheme, which aims to give back to society, and acknowledged the efforts of those who operationalise the program, particularly the Education and Research Committee.

The ICPAU Student Scholarship Programme continues to create impact, with 50 beneficiaries supported since its launch in 2019.
