The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has announced a series of upcoming landmark events, including the 2025 Accountancy Service Awards, the 15th Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards, and the launch of its annual research conference, all aimed at celebrating excellence and promoting knowledge-sharing in the profession.
Speaking at the release of the August 2025 CPA(U) examination results, ICPAU President CPA Timothy David Ediomu congratulated successful candidates and urged them to stay connected with the Institute as they advance in their careers.
“Your hard work, dedication, and perseverance have paid off, and you should be proud of yourselves,” he said. “For those who completed the course, associate membership is now open—enrolment is free. Full membership is also available to those who meet the requirements, granting access to the full benefits of the profession.”
Ediomu encouraged those who fell short this round to keep trying. “Setbacks are part of the journey to success. The December examinations present another opportunity to achieve your CPA goals,” he added.
Accountancy Service Awards Now a Standalone Event
Highlighting key upcoming events, CPA Ediomu revealed that the 2025 Accountancy Service Awards will, for the first time, be celebrated as a standalone event on 3 October 2025.
“These awards recognise individuals and organisations making outstanding contributions to the accountancy profession in Uganda and beyond,” he said. “Since their launch in 2015, the awards have continued to evolve, updating categories each year to remain relevant and inclusive, recognising not only accountants but also changemakers shaping society.”
15th FiRe Awards: Sustainability at the Forefront
Ediomu also announced that entries for the 15th Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards are now open until 30 September 2025.
“The awards, organised in partnership with the Capital Markets Authority, Uganda Securities Exchange, and Vision Group, will be held under the theme ‘Sustainability Practices and Reporting in Uncertain Global Times.’ These awards provide a platform for organisations to showcase the quality and relevance of their sustainability reporting and gain national recognition at no cost,” he explained.
Since their inception in 2011, more than 1,000 organisations have participated, benefiting from professional feedback, benchmarking opportunities, and enhanced corporate visibility.
ICPAU Launches Annual Research Conference
As part of its commitment to evidence-based reforms in the accountancy profession, ICPAU will host its first Annual Research Conference on 14 November 2025.
“Research is one of our cornerstones,” said Ediomu. “The conference will provide a platform for accountants, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to share studies that drive innovation, inform policy, and improve professional practice.”
Two key ICPAU-commissioned studies will be presented at the conference: Factors Affecting CPA Performance – insights from students, graduates, tutors, and examiners and Cost-Benefit Analysis of IFRS for SMEs in Uganda – evaluating the impact of implementing international accounting standards for small and medium entities.
Researchers across the country are invited to submit abstracts for an opportunity to present their papers during the event.
In his closing remarks, CPA Ediomu expressed gratitude to all who support the accountancy profession, from examiners and invigilators to Secretariat staff and the media.
“Your commitment guarantees the smooth delivery of the examination process and strengthens our profession,” he said. “Congratulations once again to all successful candidates—and to those who did not make it, never give up. December presents another opportunity to achieve your dreams.”
