Huawei has unveiled a cloud program for Small and Medium Enterprises in Uganda in a bid to support and accelerate the growth of startups.
The programme aims to provide small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with cloud services, technical support, and training to enhance their capabilities, equipping startups with the tools to drive business.
Speaking at the Huawei Cloud Enterprise Innovation and SME Summit held in Kampala, the Managing Director for Huawei Uganda, Sunrise Xie said the program is a new milestone for cloud services.
He noted that for over 20 years, Huawei has contributed to Uganda’s digital transformation and the cloud program is another way to shape the digital landscape.
He revealed that the Uganda startup system is a significant hope for national development but also key driver for digital innovation.
“The Huawei cloud is commitment to provide a platform to empower SMEs to innovate around the globe. We hope startups can obtain cost effective cloud computing services,” he said.
Susan Nsibirwa the Managing Director, Nation Media Group, noted cloud is key in the digital and media landscape, saying, “Imagine how many heaps of newspapers you need for over 32 years, every single day. Obviously you need cloud for storage, at a click of a button you can just ask daily monitor of January 1990.”
The third deputy Prime Minister, Lukia Isanga Nakadama, said cloud technologies will help SMEs stay competitive in the business and digital world.
She hailed Huawei for contributing to Uganda’s digital transformation agenda.
“The Huawei Cloud program emphasizes the role of digital transformation in creating jobs and boosting economic growth especially for SMEs. With this new program, SMEs will now use digital solutions to grow as they continue to be pivotal in changing the country’s future,” Nakadama said.
Fredrick Gume the State Minister for Trade in-charge of Cooperatives, noted that it’s time for digitalization and opportunities like cloud are used to grow enterprises.
“Today we have an opportunity where we have a shared Cost, this is ankh opportunity for all of us especially Ames. This is an effort to develop, With Huawei cloud enterprise u will reduce cost of production, you will pay and subscribe for your own consumption,” he said.
The Next Media Group CEO, Kin Kariisa said that cloud computing offer many advantages than investing in data centres which are expensive.
He underscored the role of cloud computing for businesses, saying it has helped many enterprises grow.
“We have a solution for streaming like the Afro Mobile which uses cloud computing. The amount of storage we need would be much but cloud computing solves it at minimal price,” Kariisa said.
