A high level mission of Executive Board members of six United Nations (U.N) agencies is set to visit Uganda to assess the organisation’s work in supporting the country’s development efforts.

The team which comprises of 35 members of the Executive Boards of UNDP, UNFPA, UNOPS, UNICEF, WFP and UN-Women will be in Uganda for 5 days beginning April 30, a statement issues by U.N in Uganda says.

“We are delighted to host members of the Executive Boards for the different agencies. The visit is a great opportunity for us to showcase how we are working with the Government of Uganda and other partners to achieve both the national and global development agendas,” said Ms. Rosa Malango, the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative.

The team will include diplomats from various countries as well as UN representatives who will review how the UN in Uganda is supporting the country to achieve its nationally led efforts to attain Sustainable Development Goals.

During the 5-day visit in Uganda, the delegation will hold meetings with key government officials, UN partners, the diplomatic community, multilateral agencies as well as the civil society.

The team will also visit field locations to see the UN’s activities, specifically in Karamoja and West Nile sub-regions.

“The annual joint field visit offers the Board members opportunities to gain close insight into UN system-wide issues, inter-agency collaboration and coordination; and partnerships with strategic stakeholders in the SDG era including civil society, private sector, local diplomatic missions and others,” said the statement released on Thursday.

UN agencies in Uganda will use this opportunity to showcase how they are ‘Delivering as One’ in support to Uganda’s work in achieving the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The UN system in Uganda will also highlight its humanitarian work particularly with refugees and displaced populations, Uganda’s engagement in the South-South and triangular cooperation, as well as lessons-learned on the implementation of its current development framework (2016 -2020).

Their findings during the visit are expected to feed into the UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ new reforms for better coordination, transparency and accountability, beginning with a new generation of demand-driven UN country teams, equipped with skillsets tailored to country-specific development priorities and needs.

“Member states will be in the driver’s seat and the 2030 Agenda will be the driving force,” the UN
Secretary General has said of the reforms.
