There is heavy deployment of security in Kampala and suburbs to counter anticipated protests by the opposition during debate of the controversial presidential age limit debate by Parliament today.
Democratic Party President, Norbert Mao has this morning addressed a press conference and threatened to lead a march to Parliament this afternoon under the week-long ‘red week’ campaign to stop debate on the report by the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs committee on removal of age cap limits for presidential candidates.
Several rings of police and the military have been cited by this site around Parliament, the city centre and several Kampala suburbs.
Police Spokesperson, Emilian Kayima yesterday warned protestors to stay away from Parliament as the age limit bill is debated.
The bill is on Parliament’s Order Paper as Business to follow this afternoon.
