For the past weeks, Twitter users could not access the Twitter handle of the Parliament of Uganda. The account which had laid dormant for months had last tweeted in February 2023.
Suddenly the old account with a big following disappeared and a new one with the same account name emerged.
Now, Parliament’s Director for Communication, Chris Obore, has said the old account was taken over by hackers.
“This is to inform the general public of the unfortunate hacking incident that occurred on the Parliament Twitter account,” Obore said.
He apologized for the inconveniences caused by the incident, saying the team tried its best, however, it was unable to recover the handle.
“The Parliament’s Twitter account was hacked and despite our best efforts, we were not able to recover it,” adding, “we were able to recover the user name and we have created a new account to ensure that we continue providing updates and engage with you as we have always done.
