Government has apologized to Buganda kingdom for being excluded from the vaccination Uganda map that was released early this month.
The map by the Ministry of Health showed how different regions performed in regard to basic vaccination of children but Buganda was left out.
The map showed all the traditional regions of Uganda as West Nile, Acholi, Karamoja, Bunyoro, Lango, Teso, Elgon, Bukedi, Busoga, Tooro, Ankole but in the place of Buganda, the map instead placed South Central and North Central.
This did not please Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi who expressed concern during his recent birthday celebrations in Masaka district.
On Tuesday, the Chairman of the Buganda Parliamentary Caucus, also Mukono South county MP, Muyanja Ssenyonga demanded an explanation from government as to why Buganda was excluded, an act that has left the masses in Buganda region aggrieved.
“The map shows Bunyoro, Toro, Ankole and it omits Buganda which is indicated as Central and North Central. This has led to very grave consequences and the society is now anxious and extremely concerned about the indication and the reason behind Buganda being deleted,” Ssenyonga said.
“Does this mean that Uganda is deleting Buganda out as we always hear it? We demand that government urgently addresses the anomaly before the people of Buganda region consider themselves as being independent.”
The State Minister for Health in charge of General Duties Sarah Opendi apologized and explained that it was a technical error that is to be rectified.
“I was equally surprised when I saw the complaint from Buganda. I looked at the map and indeed all other regions were named. As I apologized earlier, I again apologize for the mishap by the technical team and we are going to rectify it to reflect Uganda on the map. But it was purely by the technical staff,” Opendi apologized.
