The Government has finally returned over 156 Ugandan girls who had been stranded in the United Arab Emirates.
Most of the girls were victims of illegal trafficking in pretext of getting them jobs through agents after being made to pay huge amounts of money.
The girls whose Visas had expired took advantage of the amnesty offered by the Government of the United Arab Emirates in collaboration with that of Uganda after it offered amnesty to people from different nationalities whose stay in UAE is considered to be illegal.
The permanent secretary Ministry of Gender Labor and Social Development, Aggrey Kibenge, says those who took advantage of the amnesty and are reporting to Al Awil immigration center are being facilitated by the Uganda Embassy in UAE to travel and will be free to regularize their movements to the UAE.
Currently, out of 800,000 Ugandans estimated to be operating in the United Arab Emirates, only 20,000 can be traced because of using registered companies known by the government.
Kibenge advised those staying illegally in UAE to formalize their stay once their valid documents expire to avoid being inconvenienced.
