Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, arrived at Kigali International Airport this afternoon. He is set to attend President Paul Kagame’s swearing-in ceremony on Sunday.
Gen Muhoozi was received by his Rwandan counterpart, Gen Mubarak Muganga, and other senior RDF officers. He is accompanied by Maj Gen James Birungi, the Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, Brig Gen Richard Karemire, who heads the UPDF’s joint staff formal education, sports, and culture department, and Andrew Mwenda, the CEO of The Independent.
During his stay in Kigali, Gen Muhoozi, who is also the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, is expected to hold meetings with President Paul Kagame and his counterpart, Gen Mubarak Muganga.
Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba is credited for his contribution to resolving the standoff between Rwanda and Uganda which had stalled business and curtailed movement of people.
