Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations and Commander of UPDF Land Forces, has today, Saturday, commissioned Voice of Madi radio in Madi Okollo District, West Nle.
Speaking at the event, the General who was accompanied by his wife Charlotte, called for use of media as a transformative tool.
Gen Kainerugaba noted that media, if not abused, can contribute to progress of a country. He warned against misuse of media as was the case in Rwanda where it sparked Genocide.
“You remember that Radio was misused in Rwanda to mobilise people to kill their neighbors,” he said.
Gen Kainerugaba who was the Chief Guest congratulated the District Woman MP, Joanne Okia, whose idea it was to start the radio, saying that it will be used to disseminate transformative information in the region and beyond.
He also urged use of media to promote progressive government programs such as the parish development model which is aimed at fighting poverty.
He explained that such the initiative will get more people into the money economy. He said this is an onslaught – more or less a military attack on subsistence farming.
“It is my prayer, therefore, that a radio like Voice of Madi that we are launching today helps with the parish development model and ensure that more people of Madi Okolo join commercial farming,” Gen Kainerugaba noted.
The General also called for use of the radio to sensitise the people against domestic violence which is prevalent in the West Nile district.
He urged men to desist from beating women, noting that they set a bad example for their children.
