Football governing body, Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has asked all individuals interested in standing for leadership positions in football administration at different levels in the country to come out and offer themselves.
According to the road map, the Electoral activities started on March 25 and the process is running. The FUFA President and Executive will be elected before or on 31st August 2021 during the general assembly as per FUFA Statutes.
While speaking to this news website on Tuesday, Ahmed Hussein Marsha, the FUFA Communications Director, said every one is welcome to stand for a position of his or her choice in line with the existing regulations.
“FUFA welcomes anyone interested in any electable position from the District Football Associations (DFA) to the Presidency. The FUFA statutes, Regulations, Electoral Code and Guidelines shall be implemented during the Electoral process,” said Ahmed Hussein who reminded interested individuals that electoral process is already running.
Hussein adds that, “FUFA promised to organise Free and Fair elections and we move along those line” and that no body should be threatened from not offering self for election noting that the game of football is for Ugandans and they determine how it is governed.
Hussein’s appeal comes at a time when two renowned critics of incumbent FUFA president Moses Magogo, Mujib Kasule and Allan Ssewanyana have already announced bid to unseat him from the helm he has held for two terms.
FUFA’s call for eligible interested individuals for election has put off allegations that the current leadership is locking out potential leaders with an aim of maintaining their grip on power.
It should be noted that the Ordinary FUFA General Assembly is the Supreme and Legislative body of football in Uganda and that FUFA has 34 Members represented by 88 Delegates in the Assembly.
The FUFA Statutes, Electoral Code and Guidelines approved by FIFA require a person who wants to stand for the position of president to among other things have been in football administration for seven of the 10 years preceding an election.
He or she must be nominated at least one of the eight Fufa regions. In addition, you need endorsements from a UPL club and a Special Interest Group.
