Former President Barack Obama has tested positive for Covid-19.
“I’ve had a scratchy throat for a couple days, but am feeling fine otherwise,” he tweeted on his official Twitter account on Sunday.
Obama also said that his wife, former first lady Michelle Obama, has tested negative.
“I just tested positive for COVID. I’ve had a scratchy throat for a couple days, but am feeling fine otherwise. Michelle and I are grateful to be vaccinated and boosted, and she has tested negative. It’s a reminder to get vaccinated if you haven’t already, even as cases go down,” he explained.
Obama had recently returned to Washington, DC, after spending much of the winter in Hawaii. He tested positive in DC.
In a Facebook post, Obama said: “Michelle and I are grateful to be vaccinated and boosted. It’s a good reminder that, even as cases go down, you should get vaccinated and boosted if you haven’t already to help prevent more serious symptoms and giving COVID to others.”
Obama becomes the second former US President known to contract the virus after President Donald Trump announced he tested positive in October 2020.
Obama, a champion of public health measure throughout the pandemic, had to scale back his 60th birthday party on Martha’s Vineyard last year over the Delta variant.
