Five Dead as Sugarcane Truck Overturns in Masindi

Five people have died in a Saturday morning accident in Masindi district.

This was after a lorry carrying over 70 casual workers from Kinywamurara Camp to Kinyara sugarcane plantations overturned Ikoba Junction along Masindi-Hoima Road.

According to media reports, the driver was over-speeding and failed to negotiate the junction.

“It happened in the morning at 5am. Five people died,” ASP Faridah Nampiima, the PRO Traffic and Road Safety, told SoftPower News.

“They were on a sugarcane truck going to work on the farm,” she added.

Those injured in the accident are currently admitted at Masindi District hospital while others were referred to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital.
