The Joint Security task Team in Rwenzori West and Kabarole, has arrested five suspects for allegedly making terror-related threats against the business community, schools and tea farmers in Busovo subcounty in Kabarole District.
The suspects include; Narsis Nzabahimana (29), Ronald Baguma (22), Jackson Tusiime (25), Richard Busobozi (16) and Derrick Kagaba (14).
The suspects were all arrested from Kahuna cell, Kijura town council, in Kabarole District.
Police say the group while using telephone number 0780498891, issued threats to attack the community and the Police.
The group also claimed to have dropped the anonymous threatening letter at River Mpanga bridge.
In the letter, the group claimed to consist of 30 rebels based in Kiamara Forest and armed with five rifles.
Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, says that the suspects were all arrested for allegedly posting violent threats towards the community in Kirere.
He cautioned the public that such hoax threats are crimes.
He decried a growing trend of hoax threats against businesses and the community.
“After the Kasese school attack, we are seeing an increase in hoax threats against the community, schools and businesses via anonymous text messages posted on social media and via phone calls and audio recordings.”
Enanga revealed that as security, they take each threat seriously due to the devastating consequences of fear and panic in the community.
