A bus belonging to Gateway Bus service has Tuesday afternoon burnt along Kampala Masaka Highway, police confirm.

The incident according to ASP Faridah Nampiima, the Traffic Police Spokesperson, occured at around midday at Kampiringisa check point in Kamengo Sub-county where bus registration number 926U from Kampala heading to Kabale caught fire.

Photos and videos shared on social media show a thick cloud of smoke coming from the burning bus. Fire flames are seen sprouting through the bus windows.

“Cause of fire outbreak not yet established,” says ASP Nampiima.

She says all the on onboard passengers have come out alive. It is however not clear whether they sustained body injuries.

Police has also confirmed that the properties of the passengers on the bus have been burnt.
