The stage is set for the presentation of Uganda’s National Budget for the Financial Year 2025/2026, with Finance Minister Hon. Matia Kasaija expected to deliver the much-anticipated address on Thursday, June 12, at Kololo Independence Grounds.
Themed “Full Monetisation of Uganda’s Economy through Commercial Agriculture, Industrialisation, Expanding and Broadening Services, Digital Transformation and Market Access,” the 2025/26 budget focuses on accelerating inclusive economic growth and job creation.
The budget speech will be delivered on behalf of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in fulfilment of Article 155(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, and follows months of national consultations and parliamentary approval.
According to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED), the budget marks the full-scale implementation of Uganda’s Ten-Fold Growth Strategy — a comprehensive economic blueprint aimed at transforming the country into a competitive, monetised, and resilient economy.
Minister Kasaija is expected to provide updates on: the performance of the 2024/25 budget, progress on the NRM government’s commitments, economic performance and growth outlook and the financing strategy for the new fiscal year.
The Ministry has dubbed this a “People’s Budget,” crafted with a deliberate focus on harnessing opportunities for all Ugandans, particularly through the commercialisation of agriculture, digital innovation, and industrial value addition.
The speech will be broadcast live on national television, radio, and social media platforms starting at 2:00 PM, and all Ugandans are encouraged to tune in.
“This budget is packed with opportunities,” said a ministry statement on Wednesday. “We urge every Ugandan to actively follow the proceedings and prepare to take advantage of the investments, programs, and reforms outlined in the new fiscal year.”
With the economy showing signs of recovery and resilience, this year’s budget is seen as a pivotal step in driving Uganda’s transition into a middle-income economy.
