Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has noted that there is no problem if the party aspiring flag bearers seek endorsement from the ‘People Power’ movement that is seemingly subduing the party’s political space.
While responding to media questions during the party’s weekly press briefing, the party Spokesperson, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda noted that he sees no big issue if candidates seek to enhance their fortunes through different endorsements.
“During election period, candidates will always seek to enhance their fortunes, don’t be surprised when there are those will go and be endorsed by Maama Fiina, the Mufti or the Catholic Church. It is all entirely okay because at an individual level people are seeking to enhance their fortunes,” Ssemujju said.
Ssemujju noted that according to him, that is just the momentum that elections bring adding that members should understand that People Power is just a pressure group that can’t sponsor candidates according to the country’s Constitution.
“How can independent candidates sponsor each other, it doesn’t happen in Uganda. I can’t blame anyone, they can go and enhance their candidature with anyone, its only political parties and not pressure groups that sponsor candidates,” Ssemujju said.
Last week, the FDC aspirant for Kampala Woman Member of Parliament, Stella Nyanzi returned nomination forms to the People Power movement seeking for the pressure group’s blessing just days after returning nomination forms to her party for the same position.
