Equity Bank Uganda has joined SafeBoda in celebrating its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of innovation, impact, and transformation in Uganda’s transport and digital economy sectors.

As an official sponsor of the milestone celebrations, Equity Bank has taken an active role during SafeBoda’s Driver Service Week, a week-long initiative at the SafeBoda Academy in Kyebando, a Kampala suburb, designed to empower and support the boda-boda community.

“Equity Bank is proud to support SafeBoda’s 10-year journey,” said a representative from Equity Bank Uganda.

Equity Bank staff were seen engaging with SafeBoda riders throughout the week, offering on-site banking services, including account opening, financial education, and tips on how riders can save, grow, and secure their earnings. Many riders were observed opening new Equity accounts—a sign of growing trust in formal banking services among Uganda’s informal sector workers.

The service week has also featured free oil changes courtesy of TotalEnergies Uganda, National ID renewals, and distribution of new helmets and reflector jackets, all part of SafeBoda’s ongoing commitment to rider safety. Organisations like FIDO Uganda and Liberty Uganda have also contributed by offering insurance and financial literacy sessions.

The celebration culminates this Saturday, July 5, with the 21km Boda-Boda Safety Walk, led by road safety advocate Joseph Beyanga (Joe Walker), starting at Sheraton Kampala Hotel. The walk aims to raise awareness about rider training, safety, and the importance of formalised transport systems.

Now serving thousands daily through its SafeBoda and SafeCar platforms, SafeBoda has grown from a local safety initiative into a tech-driven mobility leader, setting industry standards for trust, safety, and digital convenience.

Equity Bank’s involvement highlights its broader mission of promoting financial inclusion and economic empowerment, especially within Uganda’s informal and underserved communities.
