Golf lovers from across the country are set to converge on the Kampala Golf Club this Saturday for the 2025 Kenya Golf Day–Jamhuri Tournament, an annual celebration held in honour of Kenya’s Independence Day on December 12. This year marks Kenya’s 61st Jamhuri Day anniversary.
The tournament was officially launched last Thursday at the Kampala Golf Club by Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Ambassador Joash Maangi, who assured participants that the 2025 edition will deliver even more excitement than last year.
The event has attracted strong corporate backing, with Equity Bank Uganda among the key partners ensuring its smooth organisation. Other sponsors include Uganda Baati, Kenya Ports Authority, and Axian Telecom.
Ambassador Maangi said the tournament is more than just a sporting event, highlighting its role in strengthening bilateral ties and celebrating shared heritage. “Such ventures go a long way in strengthening ties in the region, integrating the region and making it stronger,” he noted.
Equity Bank Uganda reaffirmed its commitment to fostering regional cooperation. Speaking at the launch, Johnson Galabuzi, Segment Head Personal Banking, said the Bank remains dedicated to promoting cross-border partnerships. “Our support symbolises how partnerships and friendship drive us forward in achieving our shared values through sports,” he said.

Kampala Golf Club captain Charles Rukundo announced that no professional golfers will take part this year and, as such, no cash prizes will be awarded. Nonetheless, players will compete for an array of assorted prizes and “state-of-the-art” giveaways across several categories, including Ladies and Men in Groups A–C, and a guest category.
This year’s competition will be played under the Stableford scoring format, which awards points on each hole and allows players to remain competitive even after a poor hole, offering a more forgiving alternative to traditional stroke play.
With preparations in place and anticipation building, the 2025 Kenya Golf Day–Jamhuri Tournament promises a vibrant blend of sport, cultural celebration, and regional unity.
