Entebbe — In a move to elevate passenger comfort and service standards, Entebbe International Airport has officially launched the refurbished Karibuni Business Lounge, a major milestone in the airport’s broader infrastructure upgrade strategy.
The unveiling was presided over by the Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala.
The modernised lounge more than doubles its seating capacity—from 160 to 300 passengers—and introduces an array of amenities aimed at enhancing the travel experience. These include baby changing rooms, an infant playroom, a designated smoking area, a prayer room, massage chairs, high-speed Wi-Fi, a relaxation room, and a conference room, all set within a more tranquil and spacious environment.

“It is always important to understand and identify the needs of travellers and aim to surpass their expectations,” said Gen. Katumba Wamala. “The new lounge is not just about aesthetics—it reflects Uganda’s readiness to meet the evolving demands of international travel and position Entebbe as a competitive regional hub.”
The lounge refurbishment comes ahead of the expected launch of a new multi-billion-shilling terminal building, part of ongoing infrastructure enhancements at Uganda’s main gateway. The airport is also preparing to accommodate a new double-decker aircraft, signalling its growing capacity to handle modern aviation traffic and high passenger volumes.

Speaking at the event, Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) Director General Fred K. Bamwesigye praised the initiative as a reflection of Uganda’s hospitality and commitment to international service standards.
“The new Karibuni Lounge underscores our commitment to improving the passenger journey and maintaining Entebbe’s reputation as a warm and welcoming airport. We continue to align our services with global trends in airport comfort and efficiency,” he said.

The upgrade is part of UCAA’s larger vision to modernise Uganda’s aviation infrastructure and enhance its role as a regional air transport hub.
With air travel steadily recovering post-pandemic and international connectivity increasing, the revamped Karibuni Lounge is expected to serve as a key attraction for both business and leisure travellers using Entebbe International Airport.
