Entebbe International Airport registered a modest increase in international passenger traffic in March 2025, with a total of 178,383 international passengers recorded—83,661 arrivals and 94,722 departures—according to the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA). This represents a growth of 6,393 passengers compared to March 2024, which recorded 171,990 travellers.

“This marks a steady recovery and reflects the dynamic nature of air travel,” said Vianney Mpungu Luggya, Manager of Public Affairs at the UCAA. “The increase in March traffic was largely driven by international conferences held in Uganda, intensified tourism promotion efforts, and the launch of new routes by operators like Flynas, which began direct flights between Riyadh and Entebbe in January 2025.”

Despite the positive trend in March, February 2025 recorded a dip in traffic, with only 161,095 international passengers, down from 175,630 in February 2024. The overall outlook for the first quarter of 2025 has shown fluctuation.

“It’s been a year of highs and lows so far,” Luggya added. “January 2025 was exceptional, with 216,740 international passengers, the second-highest monthly total in the history of the airport.”

On the cargo front, Entebbe International Airport recorded a total of 5,852 metric tonnes handled in March 2025. This included 1,965 metric tonnes of imports and 3,887 metric tonnes of exports.

“Export volumes continue to exceed imports, which is a positive sign for Uganda’s trade balance and foreign exchange earnings,” Luggya noted. “This consistent trend supports our national economic goals and demonstrates the airport’s growing importance as a regional logistics hub.”
