The Uganda Electoral Commission has released a comprehensive roadmap outlining key activities for the 2025/2026 General Elections, urging all stakeholders to take note of the timelines and actively participate.
The announcement was made through a press release signed by Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.
The roadmap details a series of activities, kicking off with the nomination of municipality/city division SIG committees, older persons, and persons with disabilities/youth from July 24th to 25th, 2025.
This will be followed by the conduct of candidates’ campaigns for these groups, polling, and subsequent nominations for various committees, including PwDs and youth, throughout August 2025.
Key dates include:
- Holding of District Conferences for non-unionised Workers Delegates: August 7th, 2025
- Nomination of District and City SIGs Committee Candidates: August 11th – 12th, 2025
- Conduct of candidates’ campaign meetings (OP, PwD, and Youth): August 12th – 17th, 2025
- Polling for District and City Older Persons Committees: August 15th, 2025
- Polling for District and City PwDs Committees: August 18th, 2025
- Polling for District and City Youth Committees: August 19th, 2025
- Holding of Regional Conferences to elect Non-unionised Workers Delegates to the National Level: August 25th, 2025
- Holding of Regional Conferences to elect regional Older Persons Delegates to the National Level: August 27th, 2025
- Nomination, Campaigns, and Polling for the National Youth Council Committee: August 27th – 29th, 2025.
The latter part of the year will focus on nominations for local governments, parliamentary, and presidential elections:
- Nomination of Candidates for Local Governments, including SIGs: September 3rd – 12th, 2025
- Nomination of Candidates for Parliamentary Elections: September 16th – 17th, 2025
- Nomination of Candidates for Presidential Elections: September 23rd – 24th, 2025
Campaign periods for presidential and parliamentary candidates are slated from October 4th, 2025, to January 12th, 2026.
The roadmap culminates in the polling period for Presidential, Parliamentary, and Local Government Councils across all administrative divisions, scheduled from January 9th to February 9th, 2026.
