The Electoral Commission of Uganda has announced a shift in the schedule for the display of the National Voters’ Register and Registers for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) ahead of the 2025/2026 General Elections.
The display period, crucial for voters to verify their details, will now commence later than initially planned.
Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, confirmed the adjustment. The display of the National Voters’ Register, originally set to begin on April 17th and end on May 8th, 2025, has been moved.
“However, this exercise has been rescheduled and will now commence on 25th April 2025 and conclude on 15th May 2025,” Justice Byabakama noted.
Similarly, the display for SIG registers, encompassing Youths, Persons with Disabilities, and Older Persons, also initially slated for April 17th to May 8th, faces a revised timeline.
“Similarly, the display of the Voters Registers for Special Interest Groups…has also been rescheduled and will now commence on 25th April and conclude on 8th May 2025.”
The Electoral Commission emphasized its mandate under the Constitution and the Electoral Commission Act “to compile, maintain, revise, and update the National Voters Register, and further display the compiled and updated register.”
This display is a key step outlined in the Commission’s roadmap for the upcoming general elections. Following the display period, the time allocated for recommendations regarding inclusions or deletions at Parish Tribunals has also been adjusted.
“Further, the display period for the recommendations on inclusions and deletions… will now run from Friday, 16th May 2025 to Monday, 26th May 2025 at the respective parishes countrywide,” stated Byabakama.
He added: “The Electoral Commission appeals to all stakeholders in the electoral process to participate in the display of the Voters Register and follow the guidelines that will be issued for the exercise being conducted in preparation for the 2025/2026 General Elections.”
