The Eastern Africa Grain Council, has trained over 80-grain millers under Kisenyi Millers Association (KMA) on proper and safe grain handling.
The training conducted in collaboration with Makerere University and the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) aimed at extending adverse knowledge about aflatoxins and ways through which they can be eliminated down.
Speaking at the training, Paul Ocuna, the Team leader at EAGC, said many grain traders are ignorant about aflatoxins which was risking the quality of grains.
He said this has triggered the numerous trainings to try to create awareness, but also avoid them (aflatoxins).
He noted that the Kampala Metropolitan Area Grain dealers, handle more than 60% of the grain consumed in Kampala.
Hajjat Sawdah Kabuka Muwanga Traders Representative at Kisenyi Millers Association, said the training was timely and believes, it will help improve the overall quality of grain consumed in the country.
Last month, government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), and Ministry of East African Affairs, partnered with EAGC to conduct three days of training to tip grain dealers on Cross Border trade.
