Ugandan lovers of Africa’s biggest reality TV show, Big Brother have something to smile about as the eye gripping show is yet again coming to their screens in a few weeks.
Digital entertainment television platform, MultiChoice, recently announced that the third edition of Big Brother Nigeria (Naija) is returning on January 28.
This announcement comes barely a year after the previous season of Big Brother Naija closed, as Africa was still yearning for more drama. In April last year, comic housemate and hip-hop artiste, Efe Ejeba was crowned winner, taking home the 25 million Naira (Shs 253 million) cash prize and an SUV.
The show combines drama, unscripted interaction, suspense and intrigue between housemates who are confined into a camera surveiled house for three months. Housemates face weekly eliminations until the very last person (usually the most preffered).
The viewers vote to determine who gets out and who stays.
Speaking about the forthcoming launch of the show, the Regional Director, M-Net West Africa, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu said; “We are delighted to have the show return for a third edition and cannot wait for our audiences to once again tune in to experience all of the exciting entertainment that the show is sure to provide”.
Towards the close of 2017, MultiChoice held auditions in major cities of Nigeria including Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Enugu, Delta State and Ibadan with thousands turning up to try their luck.
The Managing Director for MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe said that the 2017 season of Big Brother Naija was “a tremendous success” which prompted viewers to query about the return of the subsequent season.
“We are delighted to announce that the show is indeed returning for a third edition, on a bigger scale than ever before,” Ugbe said.
He added that “we expect that the third edition will deliver even more excitement, intrigue and round the clock entertainment that the Big Brother platform is globally renowned for”.
It is not yet clear who and how many housemates will be contesting this time round, but what is for certain is that popular face on the show, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu will again play host.
This time, Nigeria’s online retail store, Payporte which is official sponsor has hiked the worth for the ultimate jackpot for the winner to 45 million Naira (Shs 456 million).
