Mombasa, Kenya — Uganda’s Executive Director and Chief Statistician, Dr. Chris N. Mukiza, this morning delivered a submission at the 4th Session of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Statistics Committee.
The high-level meeting is focused on reviewing progress in implementing the IGAD Regional Strategy for Development Statistics, setting strategic directions to strengthen the regional statistics system, and exploring mechanisms to ensure the long-term sustainability of statistical activities across member states.

In his intervention, Dr. Mukiza urged National Statistics Offices to prioritise data security by establishing backup and disaster recovery centres.
He noted that data loss remains one of the greatest risks undermining the work of statistics agencies in the region.
