Members of the public and government officials are mourning the passing of Uganda’s High Commissioner to Kenya and Seychelles, Dr Hassan Wasswa Galiwango, who passed away this morning in Nairobi Hospital.

“My condolences to the President, Government and the people of Uganda on the passing of Ugandan High Commissioner to Kenya, Dr Hassan Wasswa Galiwango, who passed away this morning in Nairobi Hospital. My deepest sympathies to his family. Rest In Peace Ndugu,” said Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr Alfred N Mutua.

The Vice President of Uganda, Jessica Alupo, also expressed her sympathies with the family of Galiwango.

“I have received the sad news of the death of H.E Dr. Hassan Galiwango, our Ambassador to the Republic of Kenya. On behalf of @GovUganda, I send my deepest condolences to his family, the NRM party and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. May Allah grant him eternal rest,” she tweeted.

She added: “Amb. Galiwango was also accredited to Seychelles and, served as Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Program. Before that, he worked as Director-Finance and Administration at NRM. Accept once again, my deep Condolences.”

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, said the late served his nation diligently leaving behind a rich legacy.

“I join the nation in mourning Hajji Hassan Galiwango, our Ambassador to Kenya and husband to our colleague Hon. Connie Galiwango. He has served his nation diligently leaving behind a rich legacy. My condolences to Hon. Connie and the entire family.”

The Minister for Agriculture, Frank Tumwebaze, described Galiwango as a committed officer who gave it all his best.

“Very disturbing news about the passing of our Ambassador to Nairobi Dr Hassan Galiwango.  So sad. Dr Hassan was such a committed officer to duty & gave it all his best. He loved his work. He made Nairobi a real home for all of us. SAD! My sincere Condolences to his family,” said Tumwebaze.

Faruk Kirundam the Deputy Press Secretary to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, said: “H.E. Galiwango was a humble, dedicated Cadre and unifier who went to great lengths to serve Uganda. His contribution will always reflect in posterity. MHSRIEP!”

The Parliament of Uganda praised the late’s role in the development of the Education sector.

“The Parliamentary Commission has learnt with sadness of the death of Uganda’s High Commissioner to Kenya & Seychelles, HE Hassan Galiwango. We extend our condolences to Hon. Connie Nakayenze Galiwango and the family upon this loss. We pray that the almighty sustains them. We also offer our condolences to the people of Mbale where he is remembered for his role in the education sector, and Uganda as a whole where he served with dedication in various capacities before being appointed High Commissioner. May his soul rest in peace.”

In a communication, the Uganda Foreign Affairs Ministry said the burial arrangements and programs will be communicated in the due course.
