The Executive Director of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, Dr Chris N. Mukiza, has been recognised for his leadership and contribution to national development with a prestigious Rotary Vocational/Service Award.
The award was presented by the Rotary E Club of Ntinda, in honour of Dr Mukiza’s commitment to advancing quality statistical work and professional excellence in Uganda.
Speaking during the ceremony, Mike Sebalu, District Governor (D9213) and member of the Rotary Club of Bukoto, praised Dr Mukiza for embodying Rotary’s core values.
“Statistics are not just numbers; they are the foundation for decision-making,” Sebalu said, emphasising the importance of data in shaping policy, planning, budgeting and service delivery.
He noted that institutions such as UBOS play a critical role in guiding Uganda’s development through the provision of timely and credible data, and commended Dr Mukiza’s leadership in strengthening the country’s national statistical system.
In his acceptance remarks, Dr Mukiza expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing it as a reflection of collective effort.
“I am truly grateful to the Rotary E Club of Ntinda for recognising my service with the Rotary Vocational Award. This award is not only personal, but reflects the commitment of the Bureau and the spirit of collaboration that drives institutional excellence,” he said.
He added that the recognition would serve as motivation to further enhance the production of relevant and reliable data to support national priorities.
Dr Mukiza highlighted the role of statistics in complementing government efforts across communities, pointing to initiatives such as the blood bank at Mengo Hospital and the Cancer Unit at Nsambya Hospital as examples of impact-driven service supported by data.
He reaffirmed UBOS’s commitment to strengthening the national statistical system to ensure the regular availability of data for planning and effective service delivery.
Meanwhile, Ann Kamugisa, President of the Rotary E Club of Ntinda, commended Dr Mukiza’s stewardship, noting that it has enhanced institutional credibility and shaped Uganda’s development agenda.
“The Service Award presented to Dr Mukiza is a symbol of the Club’s appreciation for his outstanding contribution and a recognition of the positive impact his work has had on the lives of many Ugandans,” she said.
She added that under his leadership, UBOS has become a key pillar in national planning, supporting the government, the private sector and development partners with reliable data.
