At the previous hearing of his case on February 13, chaos had ensued ending the session prematurely after the accused officer lost his cool demanding that he be taken back to prison.

The protest was against the stringent bail conditions set by the court Chair, Denis Odongpiny which included reporting to Police Professional Standards Unit (PSU) commander every working day at 9am, not speaking to the press on any matter relating to the police force and restraining himself from the witnesses directly or indirectly.

Odongpiny had also asked Kirumira to present sureties that are at a senior rank to his (Assistant Superintendent of Police).

On Thursday, Kirumira presented to court Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sam Omara as his surety and was accordingly grated bail on the earlier conditions.

The embattled police officer was arrested weeks ago following his unprecedented announcement that he had resigned from the Police. He said he was being wrongfully harassed by his Seniors whom he accused of tramping up charges against him yet he has served diligently to rid Kampala of criminal elements.

He is accused of torture, of suspects, corruption, bribery, extortion, unlawful arrest and excessive use of authority. Other charges include neglect of duty and discreditable or irregular conduct.
