dfcu Group on Thursday, June 27, 2024, celebrated its Diamond Anniversary Gala, marking six decades of transforming businesses and lives in Uganda.
This milestone event held at Mestil Hotel in Nsambya, Kampala brought together esteemed guests, including government officials, business leaders, clients, and partners, to commemorate the bank’s journey and envision the future.
Speaking at the event, dfcu Chief Executive Officer, Charles Mudiwa, said the group was started in 1964, two years after independence to support the economy of Uganda.
“Over the past 6 decades, dfcu has supported industrialization, businesses, and other opportunities that come in Uganda,” he noted.
He went on to say that the bank was not only celebrating but also recognizing and appreciating the Heritage of Uganda.
“dfcu is a Ugandan bank, founded by Ugandans, managed by Ugandans, and will continue to grow by and with Ugandans. We will be here in 2084 to celebrate the next 60 years,” he added.
Dr. Winifred Mary Tarinyeba, Chairperson of the Board of Directors, said over the last 60 years, dfcu has gravitated to adding value to the Agricultural sector “because we believe Uganda is the food basket of the world”.
“In the soil, a diamond was found. The Best Farmers competition is part of our dedication to growing Agribusiness in Uganda,” she noted.
On his part, Jimmy D. Mugerwa, Chairman Board of Directors of dfcu Limited, lauded customers, shareholders and partners for their unwavering commitment towards the continuous growth of the institution.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, esteemed shareholders, customers, partners, and distinguished guests, let us raise a toast to the next 60 years of legacy, shared vision, innovation, progress, and prosperity.”
The Attorney General, Kiryowa Kiwanuka who represented President Museveni, also congratulated dfcu upon the milestone of 60 years.
“The History of the Bank is truly amazing, and the most important thing about it is, it is fully Ugandan,” he said.
The AG emphasized his personal relationship with dfcu which has risen in the ranks from customer to lawyer for many years.
Legacy
From its humble beginnings as a development finance institution in 1964, dfcu has grown into a top Tier one commercial bank with a large footprint across Uganda of 54 branches and over 2,000 agent banking outlets.
dfcu Bank stands out for the critical role it has played in the Agricultural sector in Uganda. It has also consistently championed women-led enterprises and initiatives, with a series of products, services and partnerships that focus on improving the financial standing of women across Uganda.
To celebrate this landmark milestone, dfcu has undertaken several activities from the beginning of the year, that will continue through to the end of the anniversary year.
Stakeholder Business Breakfast: Stakeholders including customers, partners, employees, and community leaders came together for a breakfast engagement on collaboration and forward-looking discussions where the Bank reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to serving with integrity, innovation and excellence.
Regional customer engagements in Western Uganda: CEO, Charles M. Mudiwa with the Bank’s management toured towns and cities across Western Uganda like; Hoima, Fort Portal, Mbarara, Kisoro, Kabale and others, to listen to customers and celebrate its 60th anniversary together. These engagements emphasized the Bank’s commitment to understanding and serving customer needs to foster a mutually beneficial and thriving relationship.
Tales of triumph: The Bank has and will share stories of its customers and people’s stories of triumph and transformation with dfcu Bank. So far, these stories have been shared in print, online news outlets and social media.
60 Acts of Kindness: dfcu Bank branches across Uganda will give back to communities by performing 60 acts of kindness throughout the year.
