David Wandera Appointed Absa Bank Managing Director

Absa Bank Uganda has appointed David Wandera as its Managing Director, effective May 5, 2025, following regulatory approval from the Bank of Uganda. Wandera becomes the first Ugandan to lead the bank in its over 90-year history.

Wandera brings over 20 years of experience in business leadership, financial management, strategy, and stakeholder engagement. As former Executive Director, he drove operational efficiencies and contributed to Absa Bank Uganda’s growth, solidifying its position as one of Uganda’s top three banks.

A Chartered Accountant (FCCA-UK) and Master’s degree holder in International Finance from the University of Leeds, Wandera is well-equipped to lead the bank. He aims to deepen customer trust, accelerate innovation, and drive inclusive growth, anchored on integrity, collaboration, and delivering shared value.

Board Chairman Keith Kalyegira expressed confidence in Wandera’s leadership, citing his deep understanding of evolving customer needs and proven track record of leadership, integrity, and innovation.

Wandera said, “Together with our exceptional team, I am committed to deepening customer trust, accelerating innovation, and driving inclusive growth. My leadership will be anchored on integrity, collaboration, and a relentless focus on delivering shared value to our customers, communities, and shareholders.”
