Cranes Coach Abdallah Mubiru Names Final Team to Face South Africa Thursday

The head coach of the country’s national football team, Uganda Cranes, Abdallah Mubiru has named his final team that will travel to South Africa for the up-coming international build up with Bafana Bafana on Thursday June 10.

The game will be played the at the Orlando Stadium, Soweto.

There are 23 players on the team with the South African based legion of goalkeeper Ismael Watenga and Moses Waiswa Ndhondhi joining the team in Soweto.

The team flies out tonight aboard Uganda Airlines at 8:40 PM. The leader of delegation is Kalibbala Chrizestom.

The two teams failed to qualify for the Total Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon 2021, and will use the friendly to prepare ahead of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers which will start in September.

After the retirement of skipper Dennis Onyango last March, Mubiru announced Egypt based forward Emmanuel Arnold Okwi as the new captain.

In March after failing to qualify for the 2021 AFCON, some key Uganda Cranes players including Onyango, Hassan Wasswa Mawanda and Micheal Azira announced their international retirement.

Uganda is pooled alongside Mali, Kenya and Rwanda in Group E of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers

Goalkeepers: Ismael Watenga, Mathias Kigonya, Charles Lukwago

Defenders: Paul Willa, Kizza Mustafa, Kayondo Abdu Aziizi, Walusimbi Enock, Juuko Murushid, Lwaliwa Halid, Mbowa Paul Patrick, Muhamud Hassan

Midfielders: Lwanga Taddeo, Byaruhanga Bobosi, Kagimu Shafik, Okello Allan, Waiswa Moses Ndhondhi, Lumala Abdul, Orit Ibrahim, Mugulusi Isma, Sserwadda Steven

Forwards: Okwi Emmanuel (Captain), Mukwala Steven, Kakooza Derrick
