CPA Japheth Katto and CPA Sarah Chelangat Take Top Accountancy Awards

The Institute of Certified Public Accounts of Uganda (ICPAU) on Friday recognised accountants for their outstanding performance at the 2023 Accountancy Service Awards (ASA) held at Imperial Resort Beach Hotel in Entebbe.

CPA Japheth Katto, Managing Partner at Japheth Katto Consult Ltd, received the prestigious ICPAU Gold Service Award 2023.

“We salute his outstanding contributions to the profession,” said ICPAU in a social media message.

CPA Sarah M Chelangat, URA Commissioner- Domestic Taxes- took home the CPA of The Year 2023 award for her outstanding contributions to the accountancy profession in Uganda and beyond which have made her a role model for professional conduct and technical proficiency.

“I’m thrilled and honoured to be named The Certified Public Accountant of the Year 2023 by ICPAU. I’m grateful for this recognition of my dedication to the profession. I want to express my gratitude to ICPAU for this incredible honour,” she stated. 

“This award isn’t about me, it’s about the progress & impact we’ve made in the field of accounting. Together, we’ll continue to promote professional conduct & technical proficiency. The award reinforces my commitment to promoting ethical standards & excellence in accounting.”

She advised aspiring accountants out there to remember that with dedication and continuous learning, they can achieve great things in this profession.

“This is a testament to what’s possible. Keep pushing! I also want to share this honour with every accountant who works tirelessly to uphold the highest standards of professionalism. Together, let us make the accounting world stronger, and more reliable while also raising the bar for excellence in the field.”

Rotarian Stephen Mwanje also received the Unique Humanitarian Award gong.

Speaking at the event, Vision Group CEO Don Wanyama who was the chief guest, said it was “a lively, meticulously-planned function”.

“We commit as Vision Group to continue working with the accountants’ body in furtherance of our mandates,” he said.
