Buganda Road grade one magistrate Charles Yeteise has summoned Bishop Jacinto Kibuuka to appear before court and plead to charges of uttering words with deliberate intention of wounding religious feelings of Catholics.
Bishop Kibuuka was earlier on summoned by the same court but did not show on Wednesday, his lawyer Anthony Wameli claiming the Bishop was given a late notice about this issue.
Wameli sought an adjournment of the case which the magistrate granted, pushing the matter to December 8 and ordered Bishop Kibuuka to be personally present in court on that day to enter a plea.
Kibuuka was dragged to court by Uganda Catholic lawyer’s society and Kalungu Member of Parliament Joseph Sewungu.
The prosecution led by Jude Mbabali alleges that Bishop Kibuuka excommunicated himself from the catholic church in October 2016 while appearing on a talk show on Beat FM Radio and attacked Bishop John Baptist Ondama and Archbishop Kizito Lwanga whom he referred to as “crooks” knowing that such words would injure the feelings of catholics.
