Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate, Gladys Kamasanyu has granted bail to music producer Jonah Muwanguzi and singer, David Mugema both of whom are charged with offensive communication which disturbed President Yoweri Museveni’s peace.

The Magistrate having perused all submissions by the applicants and the state prosecution, granted the musicians bail on grounds that their sureties were substantial.

The sureties have been ordered to deposit the original copies of their National Identity Cards as proof that they will represent the accussed in court.

The accused persons were asked to pay Shs 1 million shillings in cash while their sureties have been bonded Shs 10 million shillings in cash.

Earlier on, the accussed through their lawyers led by Kiwanuka Abdullah had informed court of their constitutional right to seek bail on this case which is bailable before the same court.

The lawyer had asked court to find these grounds substantial enough to grant the accussed a non cash bail since they have not been working since their arrest

The matter has been adjourned to December 21 for mention.

Prosecution alleges that Muwanguzi together with Mugema and others who are still at large willfully composed and recorded a song entitled ‘Wumula’ (Rest), which attacked and disturbed peace of President Museveni with no purpose of legitimate communication.
