High Court in Kampala has dismissed an application filed by opposition party leaders, Abed Bwanika, Ken Lukyamuzi, and Asuman Basalirwa seeking an interim order to stop parliament from legislating on the constitutional amendment bill that seeks to remove the upper 75 years and lower 35 years age caps for Presidential candidates.
The opposition party leaders had filed for the injunction, pending disposal of the main case before the same court in which they call for a referendum to decide upon the amendment.
Noting that there is merit in the applicants’ arguments, the Court’s Registrar Joy Kabagye this afternoon ruled that Parliament is an independent arm of government that must be left to do its work.
