The Public Accounts Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) chairperson, Joel Ssenyonyi, has summoned Uganda Airlines Chief Executive Officer, Jenifer Bamuturaki to appear before the committee without fail.
Bamuturaki on Tuesday 23, was supposed to interface with the committee, however, due to ‘preplanned engagements which were of great bearing on the operations of the airline’, she could not make it.
Through the Manager Corporate Quality, Michael Kaliisa, they requested the committee to reschedule their ongoing meetings to the second week of September 2022.
However, Ssenyonyi, held that it was unjust and unreasonable for management of the airline to wait until the meeting to present the letter asking for rescheduling of the meeting.
“Whereas your attendance is required to give evidence as a witness before the above Committee, you are hereby directed to appear before the Committee to discuss the Report of the Auditor General on Uganda National Airlines Company Limited for Financial Year 2020/2021,” the summon to Bamuturaki read.
Ssenyonyi informed Bamuturaki that she is expected to appear before the Committee on Wednesday August 24, 2022 at 10.00am in Conference Hall A, situated in the South Wing, Parliament House.
He noted that in case Bamuturaki fails to comply with the summon, she will be subjected to consequences of non attendance.
“Should you fail to comply with this summon, you will be subjected to consequences of non- attendance laid down in the Rules of Procedure of Parliament and civil procedure rules,” the letter read.
The officials from the National carrier, have been in meetings with MPs from the committee investigating matters raised in the Auditor General’s report for the financial year ended 2021.
