The Head of the State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU), Col Edith Nakalema, has commended media personalities and social media influencers for their role in keeping the public informed and engaged.
“I want to thank you for the great work you are doing. You keep us informed and support our office. This meeting was organized simply to express my appreciation,” Col. Nakalema said.
She made these remarks during a meeting with media talk show hosts, panelists, radio contributors, and social media influencers at SHIPU offices in Kampala.
Strengthening Collaboration for National Development
Col. Nakalema emphasized the need for media professionals to work alongside the government in promoting Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
“Many people recognize the good things the government is doing, regardless of their political views. Uganda belongs to all of us. If you witness any wrongdoing, please report it immediately so that we can act while the evidence is still intact,” she urged.
She also encouraged media practitioners to use their platforms to combat crime and misinformation.
Mobilizing the Youth to Embrace Patriotism
Addressing social media influencers, Col. Nakalema called upon them to mobilize their peers to cultivate a sense of national pride.
“You have the power to influence your fellow young people. Encourage them to love their country. This is not about supporting a political party but about fostering a sense of belonging and national responsibility,” she said.
The Role of Media in National Image
The Director of the Government Citizen Interaction Centre (GCIC), Ms. Marcella Karekye, underscored the media’s crucial role in shaping Uganda’s image while reminding them of their duty as citizens.
“Uganda is a great country with good leadership. While political debates exist, we must remain reasonable in how we approach them,” she noted.
Former Attorney General Hon. Fred Ruhindi praised Col. Nakalema for engaging with people from different backgrounds to build a shared national vision.
“A single candle can dispel great darkness. Col. Nakalema, you are a light in Uganda. Let us support the common good and national interest, which transcends political divides,” he said.
Media Professionals Express Appreciation
Media personality and businessman Mr. Patrick Mulindwa encouraged journalists to leverage technology for career growth, emphasizing their power in shaping the nation’s development.
“Journalists have the ability to build or break a country,” he stated.
Mrs. Buchana Justine Namakula, a media panelist, praised Col. Nakalema’s commitment to public service.
“If Uganda had just ten people with her character, we would be far ahead in governance,” she remarked.
Similarly, Ms. Margaret Ssekamanya Sserunjogi of Top Radio and TV expressed gratitude for the recognition.
“Col. Nakalema is turning into a blessing for us,” she said.
