Makindye chief magistrate’s Court has Monday morning released City socialite, Brian Kirumira alias Bryan White on bail.
White was released after committing a cash bond of Shs 10 million cash for himself and his co-accused, Thomas Okoth as well as Shs 20 million (not cash) for their sureties.
Makindye chief magistrate, Erias Kakooza also ordered White to deposit his passport in court. The matter has been fixed for hearing on Jan 30.
Bryan White and his bodyguard, Thomas Okoth, a police officer attached to Kabalagala police station are facing charges of attempted murder.
The two who have since been remanded in Luzira had earlier on applied for bail but the state prosecutor objected to it saying the victim, Victor Bitwiire whom they are accused of shooting is still in critical condition.
Prosecution alleges that on December 13, at Munyonyo Buziga, Makindye division in Kampala district, Bryan White and Okoth attempted to murder businessman Bitwiire Victor, contrary to section 204 of the Penal Code Act.
However, the State prosecutor, Happiness Ainebyona told court this morning that she had fully examined all documents which were presented by the accused persons’ sureties and had been informed that the victim is out of critical condition.
“When I first sought adjournment, I wanted to find out the condition of the victim and I have been informed that he was discharged and is currently under treatment,” Ainebyona said urging court to set stringent terms if they are inclined to grant bail to the accused.
Friends and relatives of Bryan White were seen jubilating outside court after he and his co-accused were granted bail.
