The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has summoned sacked Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) officials for questioning over their alleged criminal negligence in the Kiteezi landfill collapse.
The officials include former KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, her deputy David Luyimbazi, and former Director of Public Health, Dr Daniel Okello.
“It is true that the former Kampala capital city authority Executive director and her deputy, as well as the director of Public Health and Environment, were summoned to the CID headquarters,” Police Spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke, confirmed.
He added: “They were summoned and are expected on Wednesday. As you are aware, we got a directive from the president and we are moving on smoothly.”
Last month, President Museveni directed the Inspector General of Government to investigate the Kiteezi Landfill incident which left over 36 people dead, scores injured and over 40 households destroyed.
“I have, accordingly, requested the Deputy IGG, Anne Muhairwe, representing the IGG, to expeditiously investigate the matter and furnish me with the report,” the president said.
Following the IGG’s report, the president fired Kisaka, Luyimbazi, and Dr Okello.
He ordered criminal investigations into the trio’s actions and criminal negligence that resulted in the loss of human lives and the destruction of property.
