Chil’s Dettol Hygiene Quest Uganda, a strategic partnership between Reckitt, the global leader in consumer health and hygiene products (including Dettol soap and sanitiser), and Chil AI Lab, has announced the nationwide rollout of a technology-powered hygiene knowledge assessment program in collaboration with local government districts across Uganda.
The initiative harnesses Keti AI, an intelligent chatbot platform, to deliver real-time digital hygiene assessments for students at the beginning, middle, and end of each academic term. The system enables district leaders to access instant, data-driven insights into student understanding of essential hygiene practices — particularly proper handwashing — through automated analysis and interactive performance dashboards.
Designed with flexibility in mind, the program adopts a district-led model. Schools may voluntarily opt in, while district administrators can set standardised assessments incorporating core hygiene questions. Teachers are provided with two convenient data submission options: uploading student responses for AI-powered automatic marking or submitting manually graded results for automated analysis. This dual approach ensures both efficiency and reliability.

“Data is central to effective decision-making,” said Nabakka Sandra, Head of Data for Impact at Dettol Hygiene Quest. “By giving districts real-time visibility into student knowledge, we ensure that hygiene interventions are targeted, measurable, and impactful.”
Shamim Nabuuma, CEO of Chil AI Lab, emphasised the transformative role of technology in public health education. “True innovation in public health lies in transparency, speed, and scalability. With AI, we are transforming hygiene education from a passive lesson into an active, measurable, and life-saving skill.”

Key Features of the Initiative: voluntary participation by schools and districts, district-designed assessments incorporating standardised hygiene content, dual data entry options: AI-powered marking or manual upload with AI analysis, real-time analytics and oversight through the Keti AI dashboard, three-phase evaluations per academic term to measure knowledge retention and gamified learning elements to enhance student engagement and performance
The launch marks a significant milestone in integrating digital innovation with public health education in Uganda. By equipping districts with actionable data and scalable tools, the initiative empowers local leaders to monitor, strengthen, and sustain hygiene practices across the country’s education system.
