Uganda’s young athletics stars delivered a stellar performance at the CAA Africa U18 & U20 Championships in Nigeria, bringing home an impressive collection of medals and reaffirming the nation’s rising dominance in middle-distance running on the continent.
In the women’s U20 1500m, Nancy Chepkwurui stormed to victory, clinching gold for Uganda, while her compatriot Brenda Chekwemoi battled hard to secure the bronze medal. Felister Chekwemoi also posted a commendable performance, finishing in 7th place.

The success continued in the women’s U20 3000m, where Bentalin Yeko was crowned champion after a commanding run that earned her the gold medal. Yeko’s victory is another shining moment for Uganda’s athletics program, which continues to produce top-tier talent capable of excelling on the continental and global stage.
On the men’s side, Jacob Sande added to Uganda’s medal tally by claiming bronze in the U20 men’s 1500m, demonstrating the nation’s depth of talent in middle-distance events.
