Car Knocks 8 Girls, Killing 4 on Spot in Sembabule

Four people are reported dead and four others injured in an accident that happened in Sembabule district.

ASP Faridah Nampiima, Traffic and Road Safety Spokeswoman, said the Saturday accident happened at around 3:20pm in Sembabule Town Council.

The fatal accident involved a motor vehicle UBG 517L (a Toyota Wish) which was coming from Gomba Road heading to Sembabule town.

Nampiima said the vehicle knocked eight female juveniles, killing four on the spot and seriously injuring the other four.

The deceased have been identified as; Namata Winnie, Nalubega Joan, Babirye Silvia, Nabadda Macklin, all aged 13.

Those injured are; Nanyonga Molly,12, Nabayego Nowelin, 12, Ndagire Christine, 14, and another unidentified victim.

The injured, all residents of Kyabi Trading Centre, were rushed to different health centres for treatment.

The children were from attending a church service ahead of their confirmation, according to Nampiima.

“The driver is on the run. However, efforts are underway to have him arrested,” she noted.

She added: “We would like to urge motorists to be mindful of other road users and avoid reckless driving.”
