Popular city cafe, Café Javas has come out to dismiss allegations that one of their branches located along Kira Road on Tuesday this week served a customer with a milkshake containing a dead rat inside.
A video of a woman who is not clearly identified in the clip making the allegations, is making rounds on social media. She is seen using a rod to point at the rat in the shake claiming that she is so disappointed in the service provider.
“This is the rat I found in my milkshake from Cafe Javas – the people we feel so proud of, and then they tell me, to have this worked upon I need to get a lawyer,” she says.
In a statement, Cafe Javas says the said customer with a colleague on Tuesday August 24, ordered for Oreo and Caramel milkshakes to take away which was done following their standard food safety protocols and hygiene. They were however shocked a day later when the two customers returned claiming that one of the milkshakes had a rat.
“Whereas out managers conveyed the impossibility of adulteration since the process of milkshake preparation involves blending, such that no vermin (wild animals that are believed to be harmful to crops, farm animals, or game, or which carry disease) or other solid object could remain in the cup unverified, they nonetheless informed the customers that their allegations had to be verified,” says Cafe Javas.
“A quick investigation including a review of our CCTV footage of the preparation and service of the milkshake confirmed that there was no adulteration of the milkshake. The customer was duly informed of the findings to which she reacted by threatening to circulate a video of her version of events if she was not paid a certain amount of money,” it adds.
The City Cafe says the allegations are untrue, malicious in bad faith and only intended to bring their business into dispute.
