Brigadier General Stephen Kiggundu, the Deputy Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Force, has passed away.
According to Defence Spokesperson, Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, Brig Gen Kiggundu was found dead in his bathroom on Easter Sunday.
“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces inform the public of the untimely passing of Brigadier General Stephen Kiggundu, the Deputy Commander of UPDF Air Force. The incident occurred on the evening of March 31, 2024, at his official residence in Entebbe,” said Kulayigye.
“Brig Gen Kiggundu was in good health throughout the day until the evening when he tragically passed away in his bathroom,” he added.
“The UPDF fraternity and Uganda Peoples’ Defence Air Force mourn the loss of Brigadier General Kiggundu at a time when his leadership was crucial in bolstering our Air Force capabilities. Our heartfelt condolences are extended to General Kiggundu’s family, the UPDF Air Force fraternity, and the entire UPDF. May the soul of the departed Brigadier General Stephen rest in eternal peace,” expressed Kulayigye.
The late Brig Gen Kiggundu had previously served as the commander of the Soroti Air Force wing. He was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General and appointed as the deputy chief of the UPDF Air Force in November 2022.
