Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, Commander of the Land Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), has emphasized the importance of responsible resource management to ensure the fulfillment of the UPDF’s constitutional mandate and mission.
Speaking at the handover ceremony of the Chief of Staff – Land Forces office at the Land Forces Headquarters in Bombo, Lt. Gen. Muhanga highlighted that mismanaging resources can lead to command issues and disrupt daily military operations.
During the ceremony, Maj. Gen. Jack Bakasumba, the outgoing Chief of Staff – Land Forces, handed over the office to Brig. Gen. Michael Kabango.
Maj. Gen. Bakasumba expressed his gratitude to the UPDF leadership for the opportunity to serve and for their continued support. “I will remain indebted for all the guidance and support rendered to me in the execution of my duties,” he said.
Brig. Gen. Kabango, the incoming Chief of Staff – Land Forces, thanked the UPDF leadership for entrusting him with the role and acknowledged his predecessor’s mentorship.
The ceremony was attended by several senior officers, including Brig. Gen. Mwanje Ssekiranda, Chief of Staff – Reserve Force; Brig. Gen. Dr. James Kiyengo, Director of Medical Services; Brig. Gen. Richard Karemire, Joint Staff for Formal Education, Sports, and Culture; Brig. Gen. Metland Bitumbika, General Manager of Defence Forces Shop Uganda Limited, and other senior officers.
