Stanbic Black Pirates strengthened their lead at the top of the Uganda Rugby Premiership after a commanding 31–9 victory over Makerere Impis in a Week 6 clash at Kingspark Arena.
The Pirates controlled the game from the start, combining strong forward play with an organised backline that kept the visitors pinned in their half for much of the match.
Makerere Impis managed to register their points through penalty kicks but struggled to break through the Pirates’ disciplined defence.
Fly-half Allan Karuhanga delivered a standout performance and was named Man of the Match after directing the Pirates’ attack and controlling territory with tactical kicking while adding crucial points to the scoreboard.

February Player of the Month Emong Eliphaz also played a key role in maintaining the Pirates’ attacking momentum, helping guide phases of play that kept sustained pressure on the Impis.
Pirates captain Isaac Massa impressed defensively, making several important tackles and providing leadership on the field. Other contributions came from Haruna Muhammad and members of the forward pack who dominated the breakdown and set pieces.
After the match, senior Pirates player Alema Ruhweza, popularly known as Diddy, said the team remains focused on maintaining its position at the top of the standings.

“We are happy to be leading the table at this stage of the season,” Ruhweza said. “But the competition is very tight, and we know every game matters. Our focus is to stay consistent, keep improving, and continue pushing as a team.”
The victory leaves the Pirates with 24 points after six rounds, having secured five wins and one loss so far this season. They are closely followed by Buffaloes Rugby Club on 23 points and Kobs Rugby Club on 22 points in a tightly contested title race.
Other teams in the top half of the table include Heathens Rugby Club with 21 points and Mongers Rugby Club with 20 points, while Victoria Sharks Rugby Club sit sixth on 19 points.

Meanwhile, Walukuba Barbarians and Makerere Impis are tied on 14 points, followed by Hippos Rugby Club with eight points and Rhinos Rugby Club with five.
