Buganda Road Court has remanded a police officer for aggravated human trafficking.
Detective Superintendent of Police (D/SP) Arinaitwe Gilbert Bwana, a CI officer, was Thursday charged with trafficking in persons for sexual exploitation.
He was subsequently remanded to Luzira prison until August 18, 2023, when he is expected to return to court for bail ruling.
SCP Fred Enanga, Police Spokesman, said Bwana brought the 23-year-old female victim from Ntungamo District to work as a maid but allegedly coerced her into repeated acts of sex at his home in Bandwe-Nalumunye on July 25, 2023.
“The suspect was arrested, investigated,
and now charged to court. More charges are pending retrieval of DNA results,” Enanga said on Thursday.
He added: “The fact that the suspect is a sworn police officer with a duty to protect the public makes the case more egregious. His appearance in court shows our commitment to fight all persons who victimize vulnerable citizens, irrespective of their status.”
Bwana, 43, also nicknamed “Besigye’s tormentor, gained infamy years ago when he pepper-sprayed opposition figure, Dr Kizza Besigye, after smashing the window of his car with a pistol.
